The following statement was drafted by the Midlands TUC earlier this week and has the agreement of all bodies listed at the bottom of it. We hope that this will ensure better unity on the day than was evident last year.

This statement deals with the conduct of the demonstration against the BNP Red White and Blue festival to be held on Saturday 15th August.

The demonstration is to be conducted in a peaceful manner, with those present conducting themselves in a dignified way throughout the duration of the protest.

We note that demonstrators will arrive in Codnor from about 9 a.m. and that some local residents may wish to protest against the presence of the BNP festival within their community at this time.

There is joint agreement that those gathering in Codnor will assemble for the protest march at 11 a.m. and that the march is expected to move off as a single event around 11.30 a.m.

The march will proceed as agreed with the police in an orderly manner with the safety of participants and local residents being paramount.

The march will return to Codnor for a joint rally of all those groups organising for the day. A single jointly agreed running order of speakers will address the rally.

There is agreement that the day shall be jointly stewarded by the organising groups.

The rally is expected to finish no later than 2.30 p.m., with all participants leaving the environs of Codnor by 5 p.m.
